Tasmanian
Ballet Community Outreach Programme
The Tasmanian Classical Ballet Company has developed an extensive dance workshop programme that can be presented at local Primary and District High schools free of charge. The workshops include a variety of topics and can be specifically modified to suit the number and the ages of students present. |
Workshops can include demonstrations of advanced ballet class work including barre work and port de bras. The dancers could also display pas de deux (partner work) and dance exercises where the female dancer wears Pointe shoes. Audience participation could be included, where students attempt simple dance exercises. The dancers could also display a short performance work from their current show. |
The workshop would conclude with a general discussion on the life of a professional dancer. This would include a question and answer session with the students. Most workshops would be the length of a general school period (approximately 50minutes). |

The dance workshop programme provides an appreciated artistic outlet to Tasmanian communities. The Company believes that encouraging children to participate in the classic arts (music, dance, singing and drama) helps develop a child's well being. The Company seeks to enrich and stimulate the young people in regional Tasmania through the traditions of classical ballet. By presenting such workshops to students, the Company hopes to inspire and encourage them to follow their artistic dreams. |
For its 2010 season, the Company will present eight workshops/short performances from the Nutcracker Ballet to the local primary and district high schools. Theses workshops are part of our company’s Schools outreach programme that will involve twelve schools and nearly 2,000 students of primary school age. |

In past seasons, we have had an amazing response! These children’s’ workshops have been presented to the schools since 2003 and are highly sort after and anticipated. Currently, we are the only professional performing arts entity that regularly presents a specific outreach program to primary age school children (which represents nearly two thirds of all school students in this state). |
