Lainey Thomson


 

Born in the Blue Mountains, N.S.W, Lainey started dancing at age four. She received her RAD training at Classé Dance Academy, Leura, under the instruction of Susan Weule and former dancer and founding member of the Australian Ballet, Garth Welch. Lainey passed her final RAD exam with a distinction in 2007. 

She qualified to partake in the RAD Bursary scholarship in 2006 and was among the 32 finalists Australia wide. She was also a finalist for the SODA scholarship 2007. Lainey was selected and attended summer programs with The American Ballet Theatre, NY, Houston Ballet Academy, Texas and Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet, San Francisco. 

From July 2008 to June 2010, Lainey trained with Ben Stevenson’s Academy, Houston Ballet, where she performed with Houston Ballet 2 in Graduation Ball, Paquita and Chopiniana (Les Sylphides). She was also chosen to perform for the Spanish consulate and joined the Houston Ballet in the annual company performance of Ben Stevenson’s The Nutcracker for 2008 and 2009. She has also performed in several Stanton Welch ballets including Long and Winding Road, Too Many Secrets and Stop, Look and Listen. 

Last year, Lainey joined the Tasmanian Classical Ballet Company for their season of The Nutcracker. The role of China Girl is now one of her favourite roles. Lainey is very excited to be joining the Tasmanian Classical Ballet Company again this year for their season of Swan Lake.
